websites can. and cannot. have a pulse. ALSO BUY A T SHIRT. and be cool.(er) than other people.

Hey. It finally happened.

Apple was not joking about the whole Mobile Me disappearance act.

Losing mobile me as a website host means my website is.

gone.

Tragic. right?

Could be worse.

I am currently crafting paper newsletters and carrying them door to door on horseback. There you will find a list of all of my prints. shirts. paintings. design services. and prices and contact information.

no.

not really.

That would be awesome though. just probably not as effective as a new website.

BUT WE ALL MISS OLD SCHOOL NEWSLETTERS!

just me?

OK.

Im trying to joke to hide the horror.

SO. Since my site is down and I am seriously trying really hard to make a new one. ( I CANNOT BELIEVE I HAVE TO START OVER. I am both vomiting at this. and sort of numb.)  *

* i have no training. i google how to do most things. i am easily distracted. i took a 3 hr monday night class in college that i needed for a certain credit qualification. it was called= THE INTERNET.  so. yeah. i remember the pop tarts i ate in that class more than the subject matter. and the lighting in the room. very yellow.

Aint no thing. That monster has been here before.

Whenever you are trying to do something big.

or do what you feel moved to do.

there are a hundred and five moments of doubt.

and then four more moments where you think about going backwards.

or just running.

blindly.

in an entirely different direction.

I think those are the breaking points. like hurdles.

and some people just stop.

AND I DON'T BLAME THEM.

Because. Sometimes I really want to sit down for a second.

I don't think that I'm awesome because I keep going.

I think I keep going.

______________________________

I took my knee to the studio this week.

And.

I just said yes to about 5 projects.

________________________________________________

There is a little bit of progress in committing to projects because once I say yes. They happen.

despite little sleep or fear or whatever monster taps me on the shoulder.

I always remember everything is fine when I start working.

And when my reality is actually

very awesome

That's my leg brace. Next to a taxidermy product.

I mean.

Real life.

___________________________

Oh my gosh if I could just get my hands on the high school senior version of myself. From that day in class when people declared their future occupations.

and some people behind me were like... an artist?

and it shook me up for like four seconds. but no longer than that.

I think you get to feel super affected by other people for a certain amount of time.
and that time should be four seconds.

_______________________________

And

I recently found a paper I wrote on my senior art display in high school.

At the end I said ~

Art has changed my life. In the future I hope to use art to help special kids express themselves and communicate on a different level. I also want to work with deaf kids. and work in the theater.

(Um.----->  THIS.)

I would say to high school me...

GIRL. you will not believe what you will be doing YEARS from now.

You are going to try and survive by making things. And it'll look real ugly in the first week.
(That last day of your office job, you'll tear up in the bread aisle at Kroger when you realize you are buying the narrow loaf with 2000 slices for a long time.) and you will panic on a normal basis.

But, you are going to find some real serious amazing projects. So don't worry.

I think it gets even better.

And I haven't seen it. but

It has to.

Because.

You keep going.

Things that creep me out.

 1. That my knee itches where it is numb.

WHAT?!

(full disclosure: I am 2.5 weeks post ACL surgery and the entire ACL experience is sort of creepy but specifically right now. THIS. you cannot scratch what you cannot feel. therefore WHAT??)

I have found out though.. that if I scratch on the right side of my knee in places. I feel it on the other side.

yes.

And I have nothing else to add to this list of "things that creep me out" because really, the itching is consuming my brain.

In other news:

I am only going to have orthopedic injuries every 4 years because:

THANK YOU OLYMPICS.

I feel personally related to about 23 athletes right now because I am able to see every moment of their experience. And, you may say- LUUCCKKKYYY.

but dont forget.

I cannot scratch the left side of my knee.

however, yes. I am very thankful for the Olympics.
I have seen
A
Whole
Lot
Of
Them.

and
Let us say what is true.

(I am not against a shirt with that on it.)

I came to that conclusion. watching the Olympics. while also on pain killers.

HOWEVER,

I would say the same thing on or off pain killers.

____________

For more fun. watch this video. I almost cannot believe I am sharing it, but what good does it do to keep something like this in an iphoto library?

Worth watching. I am in serious mode during this little event.

July 18, 2012

little nurse hat

Alright.

I did this.

Scarlett, RN

I HAD NO CHOICE.

I am on drugs.
Stuck on a couch.

and I saw some paper and a marker

 in reaching distance.

It was clear to me. I had to make it.

LOOK AT HER.

Tell me I did something wrong.

You cant.

I would like to thank her for making this post-surgery situation slightly bearable.

It has been a painful week.

and she has been a rock star.

So I gave her a hat.

She deserved it.

I mean. that's what contemporary nurses wear... I know.
Don't worry, I am currently sewing her a pair of scrubs and hand making a retractable badge.

July 10, 2012

Pow ! (i heard it)

THIS WAS MY 4th OF JULY.

and I kid NOT.

I sort of think I aced it. in retrospect.

and this picture is strangely spot on.

You just have to rock whatever situation you are in.

__________________________

The story actually begins a week earlier.

On my birthday.

for real.

My birthday.

When

no, OK.

Ok. Ok.

for absolutely real:

The bases were loaded.

I ran to first base as hard as I could.
and made a final leap to beat the throw.

pssst... I was safe.

I actually remember thinking YAY.
and immediately/simultaneously thinking I was shot in the leg at close range.

The reality is that I landed with everything I had on my left foot. heard my leg crunch twice. and heard a loud pop.

at Least one. It was gross.

I say I landed on my left foot, but honestly I went straight to the ground against my will
"I broke my leg. I broke my leg. I know it."

(did I mention this was kickball?)

_________________________________________________________________

I sort of wanted to pass out or something and then I heard the medic say : ACL

when I hear that someone tore their ACL I think of the guy in my high school gym class who sat out for nearly a year with a giant brace on.

or that other guy in my freshman English class in college.
(I have NO idea what happened to him, it was obviously something awful, but in that moment on the ground I decided it was his ACL and I was more depressed. That guy had to start college on crutches. for the love.)

and the ugly truth set in when a doctor on the other team came over and said the same 3 letters.

Ughhh.

Apparently it is very easy to tell that you tore your ACL
if someone is able to move your leg a certain way.

AHHAHA.

the horror.

________________________________________________________________

if you can't tell what is going on here:

this is what happens when you say,  ACTUALLY EVERYONE.

We are still going out for my birthday.

and your friends carry you.

________________________________________________________________

So the last two weeks have been a little frustrating/ ew
but while I haven't been posting on here. (lame. i know. terrible)

I have been absorbing a lot of inspiration.

Like this:

I mean. They ask you if you are claustrophobic before you have an MRI.
(note- I have had more than one. so I know this question is no joke.)

I think they should ask you that AFTER.

Because they would notice a trend.

"No. I'm not. I do just fine in tight spaces and....

....HOLY CRAP ACTUALLY NOW YES I AM."

I will take the stairs forever now. thanks.

________________

Newsflash.
Appointments seem more hilarious or tolerable if you take your friends.

and also.

if they secretly document your struggles.

I was singing - "I'm never gonna dance again..."

no seriously. I was.

My sister sent me this picture with the subject line - Learning to walk.

and

this also happened.

this:

and for the sake of the arts.

We call this one-

This was really funny.
Until it became progressively less funny.

you have to try and embrace why something like this happens.

Except there is no real WHY.

It is more like embracing the NOW.

______________________

But there is so much to learn from here.
so I am going to.

and there will be an ACL Series.

It will look like the Carousel Series

but on pain meds.

already, this injury has shown me how good my friends are.

They. are. good.

and even sweet strangers.

Like the "Oh Good God!" lady in CVS. She just said that as she walked by and glanced at my leg. never looked me in the eye or anything. it was sort of awesome.

and somehow comforting.

I thought, she gets me.

but so do the students at the arts camp where I am teaching.

This morning they all asked if I was scared to have surgery.
and if I was hurting.
and how long I need to wear my brace.
and on a scale from 1 to 10, how is my pain.

and then bam-

I love kids.

I am trying not to think about it either dude.

and

Sorry about your bug bites.
