Sort of Amazing

My life is

my nephew is a glimpse of everything good.

sort of amazing.

and saying that. well that's me being shy and modest and looking down.. kicking my feet
but smiling big.

Because amazing

doesn't. even. touch. it.

Just look in the backseat.

and if balloons aren't there.

get them.

There was a little richness this weekend in running errands.

If you never feel that way,

I'm serious,
pick up some balloons.

then look in the rearview mirror.

I tied two around a wedding present that I made and wrapped for a dear friend.

It would make sense after she opened it.

and the baby love in my life came to town.

which is always a fuel up.

because like Picasso says,

“Every child is an artist...

The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

I'm busy learning from this guy.

jump in.

go for it

keep trying

and then

Can you handle that series?
I can... barely.

Im working from this office lately.

cell phone picture fail. does not show the true beauty of my new tree top urban office.

and I'm able to walk to my studio now. after our move :) which has been a joy.

greeted by morning hellos from the coffee porch drinking society that is-

 my new neighborhood.

And it is lovely.

I feel like my life is art. Rather, I KNOW that life is art.

I am preaching at church this weekend.

And this Sunday is Fathers Day.

I am inspired and moved by my dad. Who, as unreal as it seems, died after I graduated from college.

and was buried in a tie with a yellow duck print all over it.

(That he bought for himself. put under the Christmas tree. and signed that it was from me.)

Because I had just completed a sculpture of one. that was 5 feet and 4 inches tall.

And he thought it was amazing.

He said so even. the morning he died.

He said-

"The day is beautiful.
The duck is beautiful."

( yes. my parents put the sculpture in their yard.)

So while I love to make things. I love to also write.

and

This Sunday. This Sunday there will be more art.

Heck there's art every day.

Look for it.

when you bring your groceries home.

P.S.

I've been painting more lately.

I missed it. madly.

and I remember

that Picasso also said- "Everything you can imagine is real"

sneak peek:

(and I can't help but feel small victories over that. because. dude. look at the things I imagine. ahahah.)

I knew I was really moving when

I had to get rid of my bed.

even the paint brush is crying.

boo hoo

and my house turned into a game of Tetris.

With friends littering the yard.

loading my life into a truck

Packing was a beast.

I literally found myself like this one night.

I was trying on all my shoes and making cuts. sadly some of them did not make the cut. but apparently, the effort was exhausting. and the brown heels were the end of me. Look, all I know is I woke up in boxes. in brown heels.

friends lined up to help. ridiculously thankful. especially when I watched them pour sweat on my dresser as it climbed the stairs.

.

And I realized.

when you have more than one box labeled costumes... you must be doing something right.

but then again, if you have this many bags of material marked- creature fur- what then...

And good news, I LOVE my new place.

and my room.

because it is part room / part studio.

and part tree house.

and I thought all hope was lost because my favorite green wall in my old neighborhood is a bit farther from me now.

but I found this.

so I know I'm in the right place.

nail color matching things sends me over the edge.

And, I found a place for important things.

All is well.

and more art is coming soon. I know I am getting better.

Because. get this- I had ideas.
they started rushing into my sleepy brain. yahoo.

and that was a definite sign that I'm waking up.

_______

he quit his day job too.

and has a lot to say.

and like I said, I have ideas.

But I just woke up off the couch without realizing I ever went to sleep. so I have some recovery still happening... whew.

go team.

I'm entirely serious

thank goodness for capers and coffee.

Blogger has been down for a couple of days.

But see, I wrote a draft and saved it. and it disappeared during the down time.

sad!

ok. it wasn't that amazing.

i will recover.

mainly because I had an open face onion bagel with capers and basil on it.

find the caper.

I got up and saw that. come now.

and someone in this coffee shop is singing ooh ooh child over the hip hop beats and i both like and hate it at the same time.

breathe.

start over.

ok.

Hi, I have a lot of good intentions. To make some amazing things.

A lot of them are missing legs.

Seriously. Missing legs.

See. I get started. then see the sunshine or a stray piece of glitter and run in another direction.

There are a billion things I am drawing right now. It's just that they are running around at their own free will.

and I haven't the discipline.

I just keep conducting.

because as long as ideas and creatures are swimming around me.

that's good.

_______________________________________________________

Because when I am blank.

or overwhelmed,

I dump my markers out like a 7 yr old's set of legos.

and they don't fit back in so well anymore.

And I go back to what I know.

(when I see art that I love. I celebrate it big time.

Here with a giant frame and fabric mount. and yes. the artist signed it. because I emailed him about how much I adore his work.

and his email back to me was sweet and encouraging. meant a lot.)

he signed it- Amos Paul Kennedy.

He is hilarious.clever.smart.and good at what he does.

and I need to be inspired because I have important things to do.

Like teach.

yes. like looking in the mirror.

I pretty much absorb the things my kids say.

A few favorites are,

"Ladies don't drive trucks."

"Ms. Abby, are you a professional?"

and

"this is what I call a beautiful thing" (said referencing a glazed doughnut)

And I remember. That I am thankful I have 29321312 things going on at once.

I wouldn't want. to miss. anything.
